I've often wondered about the plethora of AUs that exist for Stargate Atlantis. Could this constant re-imaging be because we have some very good actors acting in a tv show that basically is shite?

*Notices confrontation on a electronic communication forum called "Gateworld"*

*Notes to colleague, "there appears to be a huge cultural misunderstanding here"

*Colleague investigates further. "It appears to be around whether a particular relationship of a sexual nature should happen on a fictional artistic medium called a TV show"*

*Alien no 1 is speechless for a moment. "How does this species cope with competing viewpoints of a spiritual nature or with their language barriers?"*

*Alienz shakes their heads*

Ach
I wasn't going to post about the cancellation of SG-1. But then I heard that SG-1 cast members might join the Atlantis. So I thought, okay, how about I NOT watch season 3 AT ALL and wait to hear if Danny-Boy is transferred (or any of them come to think of it), cos I won't bother.

No offence to Daniel fans, but I'm just not a big fan of... Michael Shanks. James Spader - hell yes!! Michael.. cute but overrated.

Correction: Michael leaves me relatively unmoved, I do however, hate wankage and there's been a hell of a lot of wankage involving Daniel. And as Atlantis is relatively wankage-intense as it is, the thought of shippers, thunkers, slashers plus Daniel fans going hard at it in season 4 just fills me with horror at the thought of the wanton futility of it all.

So I'll just stick with my crime programmes and avoid their fandoms.

In my book that is. :)

So that's my take on it. I'm offski for the time being at least. Until I know more I'm not engaging with any of it. Pfft.

I'd also like them to sack Cooper. Just because.

My Anti-Sheppard thread didn't work, as I believe Sheppard is in the season premiere tonight!

Only kidding, I just want better characterisation like all the rest of you. What I do want to say particulary, is have a great time tonight and I want to hear all about it in the morning. I'm away to Perthshire so I shall be in the Highlands.

Here's hoping for a season full of McBeckLa or stuff I can make into McBeckLa

Okay so killing Sheppard didn't work.

Can I ask all of you a favour? If it's at all possible and if it's not too much trouble, could you filter me out of any posts that deal with issues you may have with others in fandom and on my flist? I'm asking because I find it distressing to read and I really don't want to be involved. I like you all, most times I can see both sides of the argument and I've tried to help in various ways, but I'm frankly exhausted with it and I don't want to get sucked in by accident or by default.

Fandom is about having fun. Really, if it's not, ack, it's not worth doing.

Fandom, fandom, what am I do to with you? Always sniping, always arguing...

So here's my radical yet simple solution to all the fandom arguments.

KILL SHEPPARD.

If Sheppard was killed off we'd have

- no Kirking arguments because he'd be dead
- no Sparky/Sheyla shipping arguments because he'd be dead
- no intra-Sparky warfare because he'd be dead
- no intra-Sheyla warfare because (guess what?) he'd be dead
- no slash/ship arguments because he'd be dead
- no rows about Weir's hottie because he'd (Sheppard that is) would be dead
- we'd finally settle the argument about whether his hair has a life of its own because it would be dead
- no feelings of perseution by GW mods BECAUSE HE'D BE DEAD.

You see? It's all Sheppard's fault. Kill him off.

It's like when you were wee and you and your wee brother fought over a toy and your Mum would shout "If you can't play together I'm taking the my little pony Tonka truck offa the both of you!"

Must be something in the water. This time it's liliumscribe's fault. We were having a discussion about Teyla and Weir on her LJ, and I said we didn't need to have a knitting bee. EL pointed out that a knitting bee might be good to help Teyla get some clothes. And this was born.

Note! I like Teyla! This is not written at her expense...

Knit One Purl Two

"Elizabeth's granny had always said to her "Never cast a cloot until May is oot" and since Elizabeth's Scottish grandmother had long be hailed as the bastion of wisdom in the Weir family, Elizabeth had always ensured that she was well covered up until at least midsummer.

Therefore, it was a source of great concern to her that Teyla seemed to have no clothes at all that were useful in combating the chill of an Atlantis evening when the mist rolled in over the ocean, shrouding the city. She knew that Teyla had only managed to bring a few tops and trousers with her, none of which were in any way practical, and really it wasn't in Elizabeth's best interests as leader of Atlantis that Teyla come down with some Pegasusan lurgy.

And so she had sat down with her knitting needles one night in the canteen and cast on enough stitches to knit Teyla a warm cardigan, based on one her Granny had knitted for Elizabeth and that had stood her in good stead through thick and thin, college and diplomacy, the Milky Way and the Pegasus Galaxy.

One night, Kate Heightmeyer had noticed her knitting. The next evening Elizabeth found herself joined by Kate, the evening after that two members of Rodney's science team, the evening after that two marines. Soon there were 10 women knitting regularly of an evening. Knitting it turned out was a common occupation - it helped spend the time while others - both loved and unloved - were in the field.

And thus the Atlantis Knitting Bee was constituted.

Teyla never joined though. Although she appreciated the socks, vests, cardigans, leg warmers and scarfs the other women knitted for her.

The End"

This story was brought to you by a sugar high.

A little bit of light relief given that fandom's going to hell in a handbasket. (I always wondered what that meant? I mean why a handbasket?)

If you can read this, then welcome to [info]astropoet's SGA fandom journal.

I've felt for a little while that I wanted to split my journal. I'd tried using filters, but I end up getting confused. This way, it'll be easier for me.

If you want to re-friend me then I'd be really happy to see you.

And remember, McBeckLa Rules!!
